Finally done

It took longer than finishing a quilt would normally take for me, but I got it done. Saturday I had two sides left to do the binding when Mark said we are going to California. Drat I was hoping to finish by supper time. But it was a nice drive and it also was late when we got home. We tried to find a place to stop for supper but every place was way busier than we had anticipated. Gee imagine that not many want to cook on a Friday night. LOL We came home and had cereal for supper around 8:30 pm.

The next morning we were leaving to meet up with Barb and David for lunch in Gila Bend. But as it usually is, I was ready to go before Mark. So while I waited I finished the binding on my quilt. Woohoo, finally done and draped on our loveseat. It didn't turn out as nice as it would have had my arms and hands worked better, but suffice it to say, it's not too bad considering. It's done, I love it and it really brightens up the living room. Now if Mark will feel comfortable using it. I make the quilts for use not just to look at. ๐Ÿ‘€

We had a great visit with the best brother and sister anyone could ask for. The pizza place has the best pizza. And this time we ordered extra large so that we had some to take home. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Hopefully we will be able to meet again next year for another nice visit and more great pizza. It's an hour and a half drive so it's not a place that we frequent. That just makes it more special too.

This coming week the heat is on the rise with days up the upper 80's to mid to upper 90's. It appears that summer is making a come back. At least the nights will be cool yet. Today I hung all the laundry on the lines and there is a breeze that will dry them nicely before it gets too hot to be outside in the sun for too long. The a/c will be turned on sometime this afternoon and off just before bedtime.

Last weekend we went to the Arizona Market Place to buy a tuned wind chime. As luck would have it they had one left and half the price of last year. So we purchased it and headed home. There were not a lot of people there and not as many vendors as in the past. So we felt pretty safe, but still got what we came for and left. I call our new chimes "Big Ben". The first few days the wind so was so horribly strong that we had to bungee them to keep them quiet and so they wouldn't get damaged. The wind today is really making them "sing". So far our neighbors like the new chimes too. We were afraid they would be too loud for some folks. Maybe next year when more of the "rude" snowbirds are here it could be an issue. They can kiss my butt. hehehe

Fishing spot

Yesterday was laundry day and a great day for a ride. Once the laundry was done and our tummies and fuel tank were full we went for a nice ride. We were in search of a lake to do some fishing. It was such a lovely day for a ride and it felt good to be out doing something besides sitting in front of the tv or computer or doing household chores.

It wasn't too far out but it was really tucked away where we found Mittry Lake. The road sign for the lake was so funny, but so Yuma........

After turning on the road to the lake, it was still quite a drive to find the lake. The GPS didn't even know where it actually was. Once there we were quite impressed with the area. There was a nice boat landing, picnic area, a bathroom structure, ample parking for cars, trucks and rv's. No overnight camping though. There were man made peninsulas where you could stand and fish. Which is what I like to do. No boats for me, I couldn't get in one anymore if I tried.

The lake was a good size with all kinds of channels to go through. Making fishing a lot of fun and more area's to try your luck at catching the elusive "big one".

There was a man there that was very kind and helpful with sharing his experience and a bit about fishing on this lake. He was from California and came here to fish so he didn't have to pay $5 to fish. LOL, it cost him more than that to drive here to Yuma.

In the parking lot we saw three vehicles with plates from Minnesota. They were from the partiers in the picnic area. A few others from AZ and other states as well.

All in all, a very nice place to try our luck at catching fish and enjoying a past time that we both like.

Another week gone by

The week started out warm and then cold. Well to me it was cold. I don't call 62ยบ warm and then throw in a wicked north wind on top of that. The ole propane heater was brought out of the shed and back into use. This coming week is up and down temps too. Such is spring when the temps fluctuate all over the country.

Mark vacuumed the porch rug for the last time this week. It is so hard to push in any direction but one. So off to Lowes to get a new rug for the porch. As luck would have it we found one that was a lower nap and not as thick and at a price we couldn't believe. So we bought it. Ok, one problem, we drove to Lowes in the SmartCar. Opps. So after we paid for the rug we asked the clerk if we could come back shortly to pick it up with the truck. Once home we had to put insurance on the truck, again. And then we decided to just leave the insurance on the truck. It was cheaper to leave it on then to pay insurance for one day.

Once the rug was home we began taking things off of the porch to remove the old rug. The new rug fit perfectly and looks richer and more like us than the Aztec or Texan design on the old rug. The plain gray is more our style. It still looks nice with the house trim and the cabinets, in fact better.

Lola got her hair cut and the groomer kind of goofed and gave Lola her summer cut. So Lola is a bit on the chilly side most days and every evening. I guess I wasn't specific enough when speaking to the groomer. Oh well, it is warming up soon enough. In the mean time Lola is indoors. Heck she is indoors most of the time. She is NOT an outside dog. She much prefers her bed or our couch. The little stinker.

Second COVID shot

Yesterday morning we got our second COVID shot. We were quite early but there was no waiting so they let us go through. Everyone working there, and I mean everyone, was so nice, happy and friendly. It really relaxes a person that isn't nuts about getting a shot. Especially one known to have side effects.

After we rested the required 15 minutes we headed out to pick up a GodFather's Pizza. When I called the order in I said my name and the gal said "that will be a large hamburger pizza, right?" That sent me into a fit of giggles. She said that she recognized my name and I always order the same thing. I call her great at her job. We were still chuckling about it last night. Boy are we predictable or what.

By mid afternoon our arm got sore from the shot. Just a little bit more than a normal shot, nothing serious or to go on and on about. Heck my arms are always sore so this was not much out of the ordinary for me. Mark skipped going to the pool in case it got more sore. He didn't want to make it worse. This morning it's about the same, but so far, PTL, no other side effects.

Sunny and 52ยบ this morning heading to 85ยบ with a slight breeze. Good day to hang all the laundry on the lines to dry. Mark will probably go to the pool. Retirement is great, but getting older sucks.

New living room blinds.

We found it amazing how closely the blinds matched the wooden shelves above the window.  And we love how the blinds make the room look too.

Doctor

Monday I met with the doctor and he has referred me to a rheumatologist. The soonest I can meet with him is June 10th. With all the retired people living here two such doctors can’t keep up with the case loads. I’m sure that is why they are sooooo busy. My PCP did renew my heart pills and gave me 15 pain pills for nights that I need them to sleep. The pain pills are an opioid so he couldn’t give me more than that. It will help, I hope, until I see the specialist. Dr Baig thought maybe I have fibromyalgia but I have no other symptoms other than sore muscle and joint in my arms. I refused taking the pills he wanted to give  me. I don’t trust any pills that I have not researched. And he said that if I did that I would not take the pills. So that tells me I made the right decision. The side effects on those pills are really bad. I forget the name right now.

This morning I signed us up for our second COVID shot. I pray we get no side effects. The first one was a walk in the park.

Bye bye Happy

After ordering a bigger kennel for Happy, I’ve made the tough decision to take him back to the Humane Society. I just can’t do the work that two dogs require, even with Marks help. I gave it more time to work out this time but nope, I have to stay with No more dogs, like I said after we got Lola.

Our home is nothing fancy, but it’s a nice home that I take pride in and I just can’t keep up with the workload. It’s not Happy’s fault, I just getting older and I don’t have the strength like I had when I was in my 40’s.

It will be 5 days today that we have had him this time. And the bird is neglected badly, Lola is turning into a sack of potatoes and the house is a pig stye, all because I can’t keep up. We can’t go or do anything unless Happy is in the crate and that’s not fair to him. And it’s not fair to the others. It’s all just too much for this old lady to do, even with Marks help.

I feel badly for Happy, but better now than a few weeks or months down the road. I’ll call the HS today with my decision. All Mark says is that it’s my decision. But yesterday he did mention that his eyes burn when he gets too close to Happy. That tells me there is an allergy there. He doesn’t need more issues.

Amazon is good about returns so I’ll just turn around and take the kennel to UPS when it gets here. I won’t even open the box.

Not sure what I’ll do today other than clean and scrub the floors again. That’s all I do anymore. ๐Ÿ˜ช

                ------------------------------------

This morning we took Happy back to the HS. It was hard but needed to be done. When I walked in, an older man asked me if Happy was going up for adoption and asked questions about Happy. He had just lost his wife and was looking to adopt a companion. When I handed Happy over to staff the man told her that he wanted to adopt Happy, NOW. hehehe Now you tell me, was that not a sign from God that I did the right thing at just the right time? I didn’t cry as hard leaving Happy this time either. It was like a weight had been lifted from my heart.

I now have ALL floors cleaned and scrubbed. They had to be scrubbed twice too yet. Happy really slobbers when he drinks and it tracks all over. And in the desert there is always dirt on the floors so it looks even worse. I’m sure Lola is happy. She jumped all over us when we got home, Alone! The house isn’t as lively without Happy, but I’m ok with quiet. Today is horribly windy or I would clean Murphy’s cage good and proper. But I think I’m suppose to leave it for another day.

Mark wants to put up one of the blinds this afternoon. The one behind Murphy’s cage will go first. It’s the easiest one to do first to see how we can get them hung. I hope it goes up relatively easy. Not sure how my arms can deal with a struggle after all the scrubbing.
